State Medical University (TMSU)
is located in Tbilisi, the capital state of Georgia. It was founded in 1918 and
was named as Tbilisi State Medical Institute. The university has an illustrious
history of more than 100 years in teaching medicine. In 1992, Tbilisi State
Medical Institute was given university status. The university is WHO and MCI
recognized. Therefore you are eligible to appear for NEXT as well as USMLE.

public university and is one of the top universities for a medical graduate
program in Georgia. Tbilisi is also the largest city in Georgia with a rich

According to the data provided by the National Board
of Examination, between the year 2015-2018, a total of 1,600 Indian graduates
from TSMU appeared for the MCI screening test which is the highest number when
compared to other universities in Georgia. This makes TSMU the most popular

Tbilisi State Medical University
History
The university was established on 8th February 1918.
On 10th of June, 1930 Tbilisi State Medical Institute was founded. At that
time, it only had 3 medical faculties including Somatology, Phytochemistry and
Preventive Sanitary.
Later, on 24th November 1992, it was given the status
of a university and hence the name – Tbilisi
State Medical University. The English-Medium Medical Faculty of
General Medicine was established in 1996.
Today, TSMU has the following faculties:
· Medicine,Pharmacy,Stomatogy,Public Health,Physical Medicine & rehabilitation
· The university runs 4 Higher Education Programs:

Pharmacy
Technician.
By 2007, the faculty of Therapeutic Physical Training
and Rehabilitation of the State Academy of Physical Culture and Sport was
started in TSMU.
Between 2015-18, a total of 1,600 Indian graduated of
TSMU appeared for FMGE and about 20% passed the exam during this time.

MBBS Duration
The duration of the program is 6 years. The initial 5
years include theoretical and practical study. The last year includes an
internship. After completing the 6-year course from Georiga, the students can
come back to India and appear for the screening test.

Facility
TSMU
does not provide on-campus accommodation facilities to international students.
Tbilisi State Medical University does not have a hostel facility for Indian
students. The students have to find an apartment for rent in the nearby areas
(which are mostly residential). This is the biggest problem of taking admission
in TSMU. The other major drawback is that there is no Indian Embassy in
